I was on vacation last week, from my full time job and apparently my blog as well. No excuses for it, was just in a reflective state and sorting things out. Which made me wonder…
How do you spend your vacation? Do you typically go away and come back thankful you can sleep in your own bed again even though you had the trip of your lifetime? Do you cross some things off your lifetime’s to-do list or do you do nothing, celebrate the day of no obligations or responsibilities?
The entire time I was off I wondered how one could be productive while relaxing. It seems I’m not the only one in the world searching for this solution nor am I the only one who lays in bed stressing about this and what needs to be done while trying to nap, just because a nap is possible. And relaxing to me is doing something I love to do while being productive but it’s so hard to invert that to mean the same – being productive while relaxing is completely opposite to me. And that may not make sense to you but after this vacation it makes perfect sense to me.
I love to write to escape my everyday chores but if I don’t get a written thing completed than it’s just another notch on my to-do list to take care of when my vacation is over. Unfortunately I have too many unfinished pieces of writing to ever have a vacation from catching up on incomplete thoughts.
So it’s a vicious cycle. One I wish will be completed in my retirement days, when they ever appear.
Thanks for reading and if you have any advice, please share it.
