From Blood Day: The Novel

This may have made him lonely on occasion except for the amount of friends he always visited on his way anywhere. So many people were eager for his visit even though he never stayed long as he had to go on to the next person.
Aaron didn’t say much, he was just there to listen. And each story seemed more interesting than the last to him so he was always eager to finish his day knowing how much more he had discovered about his friends and neighbours.

And then there was Lucy

Chapter 8

It doesn’t matter if you believe in soul mates as yours believes in you and that’s all that ever matters.

Miles away but one of the first stops on Aaron’s way home, he often visited Ralph and Tara if only to listen to their gibberish and complaints. They often didn’t even acknowledge that he was in the house but that didn’t matter to Aaron. Weekdays his risks included visiting friends who barely knew he existed while using him for all he was worth.Aaron’s feeling of importance came from within and that was more than enough for him.

It was over a week before that he was able to stop in, unusual for Aaron, especially for this couple. They were his most desperate and lost friends and trusted they would experience a breakthrough soon. He just didn’t expect their change to be in the form of a lost, young girl.

When Aaron first arrived that Monday afternoon all was quiet. It didn’t take him long to figure out why – it was only Tara home. Ralph must have been out picking up more booze or possibly groceries. Aaron’s fingers were crossed.
Ralph returned without groceries or booze and, much to Aaron’s surprise was with a little girl. He wondered if she should be trusted with such innocence and decided it really wasn’t his decision even though he was clearly right.

Aaron knew he wouldn’t be introduced and was used to and ok with that, he would make his own introduction when she was ready to embrace him. He knew it would be soon by the desperate look in her eyes. He had all the time in the world, his parents always assured him.

They promised they went through the same trials when they were his age and he believed them. He just wouldn’t confess his every conflict even when he was at his wit’s end. They offered support whenever he needed, he just wanted to get through the most difficult challenges on his own as it made him feel more involved and liberated when he was successful.

At that very moment Aaron decided if he was successful with this young girl, help he realize she was special and full of potential. The same message his parents gave him almost weekly, just different wording. And where it wasn’t coming from her parents, any parents or an adult he knew she’d listen.

One Response to “7 of 77 and 7”

  1. Alright, alright. Here’s my 7 lines from page 77 of Open Heart. Thanks for the tag!

And my daughter, Ronnie, goes to school here. Hi, Sugar,” he waves to Ronnie, and I feel bile rise in my throat.

“Well, I just couldn’t let my princess go to school in such a crowded environment. So, naturally, I had to make an investment to the tune of five hundred thousand dollars.”

I gasp and see Shapri’s mouth fall open from the corner of my eye. Alex makes a low whistle—the same sound Wile E. Coyote makes whenever he’s falling through the sky after one of his failed attempts to capture the Roadrunner. Other students whisper. Ronnie’s crowd fawns over her. There’s no doubt they’ll try even harder to make her like them now that they know she’s filthy rich.
