A friend of mine tried to convince me for months to read a Nora Roberts’ novel as Nora Roberts’ is her favourite and most read author. I always had other novels to read and didn’t feel the draw and need to read a new author. I thought Nora Robert was more romance and less of what I was looking for – mystery, suspense, crime, murder…

Oh how wrong I was.

Nora Roberts is Now On My Must Read List

Although I can’t claim Nora Roberts to be a brilliant and/or favourite author yet I am hooked after reading the compelling story of Livvy in River’s End.

Yes, there was romance and “awww cute” moments for me but there was also a “whodunit” factor that I love. Although more obvious than a typical Harlan Coben novel, Roberts was able to put me on the wrong path a few times by having me doubt the culprit.

I have more Nora Roberts books on my shelf that I will be getting to very soon and hope to enjoy as much as I have River’s End.

River’s End Synopsis without Spoilers

At four years old Olivia MacBride sees something no child or adult should. Her father standing with scissors in his hands above her bleeding mother. While she races to her hiding place she begins a life of questioning herself, disbelieving her worth and her grandparents, who take her in, keep her sheltered enough that she doesn’t need to explain why she’s sad.

In her journey through her teenage years into adult life, Livvy figures out how true to life nature is in the idea that death needs to happen for new life to begin. In this sense she gives up what she, at four, thought was her destiny to create a whole new world with people she thought she could trust and those she knew she couldn’t.

Noah is another constant in her life even though she keeps shoving him away. As long as he has the image of her at four years old, hands over her ears calling for her then deceased mother in his head, Noah continues to force his existence in her life.

River’s End is Highly Recommended

I strongly recommend reading this book if you’ve read Nora Roberts and if you haven’t. Olivia’s journey will give you a new lease on life, a new respect for nature and an altogether fantastic read.

You never know what you’ll find at your river’s end until you embrace the river.

Thanks for reading,

  1. Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll try to get my hands on a copy. One of my favorite books is ‘My family and other animals’ by Gerald Durrell. It isn’t a mystery so I’m not sure if you’ll like it but it is one of the funniest and most immersive books I’ve ever read.

    • I will keep that in mind when I need to buy books again. I’m always in search of good books and am open to a wide range of topics.
