The very first publication of the first of Schuh’s Back Tracker Series sets the pace for an amazing story for loss, love and trouble.
I immediately fell in love with Katrina, a young girl who is dealing with her alcoholic mother and loving, doting father. When her admired and respecting grandmother passes, then her grandfather dies she is left with depending on her dad but who needs to focus his efforts on healing her mother. She feels alone, with an inheritance which could last her lifetime and a brain to match it but soon finds herself completely alone.
Once turning to an older boy who chooses a life of drugs and gangs over her love, Katrina wonders if death is her best option. The tragic life of a teenager being raised in a troubled home, the story of The Traz, a gang involved in so much our young community should never be subject to, lets us into a world not usually made public.
Although there were a few minor errors the story but left almost unnoticed with relation to the overall impact of Katrina’s story. And which novel doesn’t have an error in it? I don’t remember the ones I found the error in, I remember the amazing stories and this is one of them.
Eileen Schuh is coming into her writing career in a big way, coming out with the paperback version of The Traz and will have her second novel, SCHRÖDINGER’S CAT, out at the end of August, 2011. I can’t wait and neither should you! I’d recommend reading The Traz today – you’ll thank me for it.
A terrific tale for teenagers, young adults and adults.
